Corecursive Algebras: A Study of General Structured Corecursion (Extended Abstract)

چکیده
We study general structured corecursion, dualizing the work of Osius, Taylor, and others on general structured recursion. We call an algebra of a functor corecursive if it supports general structured corecursion: there is a unique map to it from any coalgebra of the same functor. The concept of antifounded algebra is a statement of the bisimulation principle. We show that it is independent from corecursiveness: Neither condition implies the other. Finally, we call an algebra focusing if its codomain can be reconstructed by iterating structural refinement. This is the strongest condition and implies all the others.

Corecursive Algebras: A Study of General Structured Corecursion
Motivated by issues in designing practical total functional programming languages, we are interested in structured recursive equations that uniquely describe a function not because of the properties of the coalgebra marshalling the recursive call arguments but thanks to the algebra assembling their results. Dualizing the known notions of recursive and wellfounded coalgebras, we call an algebra ...
متن کاملCorecursive Algebras, Corecursive Monads and Bloom Monads
An algebra is called corecursive if from every coalgebra a unique coalgebra-toalgebra homomorphism exists into it. We prove that free corecursive algebras are obtained as coproducts of the terminal coalgebra (considered as an algebra) and free algebras. The monad of free corecursive algebras is proved to be the free corecursive monad, where the concept of corecursive monad is a generalization o...
متن کاملFrom Corecursive Algebras to Corecursive Monads
An algebra is called corecursive if from every coalgebra a unique coalgebra-to-algebra homomorphism exists into it. We prove that free corecursive algebras are obtained as a coproduct of the final coalgebra (considered as an algebra) and free algebras. The monad of free corecursive algebras is proved to be the free corecursive monad, where the concept of corecursive monad is a generalization of...
متن کاملFriends with Benefits: Implementing Foundational Corecursion in Isabelle/HOL (Extended Abstract)
We describe AmiCo, a tool that extends Isabelle/HOL with flexible function definitions well beyond primitive corecursion. All definitions are certified by the assistant’s inference kernel to guard against inconsistencies. A central notion is that of friends: functions that preserve the productivity of their arguments and that may occur in corecursive call contexts. As new friends are registered...
متن کاملFinal Coalgebras from Corecursive Algebras
We give a technique to construct a final coalgebra in which each element is a set of formulas of modal logic. The technique works for both the finite and the countable powerset functors. Starting with an injectively structured, corecursive algebra, we coinductively obtain a suitable subalgebra called the “co-founded part”. We see – first with an example, and then in the general setting of modal...
